ADHD Awareness Month

ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) is a neuro-developmental disorder that affects individuals of all ages. It is estimated that around 5-10% of children worldwide have ADHD, and many continue to experience symptoms into adulthood. Despite its prevalence, there is still a lack of understanding and awareness surrounding ADHD.

ADHD is characterised by persistent patterns of inattention, impulsivity, and hyperactivity, or counter intuitively, hyper-focus that can significantly impact an individual's daily life. It can lead to difficulties in academic or professional settings, strained relationships, and low self-esteem. However, with proper diagnosis and support, individuals with ADHD can learn to manage their symptoms and thrive.

Awareness of ADHD results in improved support systems, both at home and in educational or work environments. Understanding ADHD can enable teachers to implement strategies that accommodate different learning styles, and employers can provide workplace accommodations that optimise productivity. Additionally, increased awareness can lead to more effective communication and empathy in relationships with individuals who have ADHD.
