Staffordshire Heroes

This Sunday 12th November take a moment to find your nearest memorial.

Remembrance Sunday originated after World War I, a conflict that brought immeasurable loss and devastation. It provides an opportunity for individuals and communities to come together to reflect on the bravery, selflessness, and resilience shown by those who served in the armed forces.

Remembrance Sunday carries the essential message of learning from history to build a more peaceful future. It serves as a reminder to work towards resolving conflicts peacefully, supporting veterans and their families, and promoting initiatives that minimise the devastation caused by armed conflicts.

Have you visited all of the war memorials in and around Tamworth, not all of them are monuments! Here are some that we’ve found on our travels:

Wigginton War Memorial: An obelisk commemorating Wigginton Parish residents lost in 4 conflicts. St. Editha’s Church, Tamworth: Memorial stained glass window for those lost in WW1.

Post Office, Glascote: Two brass plaques remembering those lost in WW1 & WW2.

Tamworth Enterprise Centre, Tamworth: Marble tablet honouring members of the Territorial Army, North Staffordshire Regiment who fell in WW2.

Amington Cemetery: Stone cross honouring the fallen of Amington in WW1
