When Times are Tough

Tamworth Foodbank braces for its toughest winter yet.

This winter, Tamworth Foodbank is anticipating its most challenging season to date. With more people expected to require access to food banks, the organisation is under an unprecedented amount of pressure.

Tamworth Foodbank is calling on the local community to donate food, where possible, to help provide support to those in need. The cost of living has risen sharply, exposing the UK's inadequate social security system and driving record numbers of people on the lowest incomes towards food banks. Despite their best efforts, the Foodbank is already stretched to its limits. Unfortunately, donations of food to Tamworth Foodbank have fallen in the last six months, resulting in a widening gap between what is coming in versus what is being distributed.

Last winter, Tamworth Foodbank provided 2,500 emergency parcels to the local community between December and February. Staff and volunteers also provided countless hours of compassion, guidance, and expert support to those who had nowhere else to turn.

Emma Coates, Tamworth Foodbank Manager, stated, “Everyone at Tamworth Foodbank is grateful to the Tamworth community for their generosity since we were founded in 2011, and we know that as we get further into winter, the community will once again rally around us.”
